April 12, 2011 was a night of rediscovery at the Society Lounge in Makati for the Philippine Society for Training & Development (PSTD) members, guests and friends. It was also a night of pride for this year’s Board of Trustees as they unveiled the 1st PSTD Workplace Learning and Performance (WLP) Awards and the Gawad Maestro statue – their version of the Oscar. For the learning professionals from various industries who attended, passion was rekindled, volunteerism and charity were sparked and excitement was ignited for the coming Annual PSTD Convention at Davao City on May 17-19, 2011. According to Fe Marie Cabantac, Chair of the PSTD Professional Development Committee and the main organizer of the event, “it was our desire to make our past members come back to their roots, the PSTD. It was meant to showcase what PSTD can offer as an organization in the field of WLP and re-engage them once again.”

This first homecoming event ever organized by the society was made more memorable by the engaging program prepared and hosted by the PLDT learning team led by Mr. Nonong Noriega, who also serenaded the audience with classical songs. Mr. Pido Aguilar, a PSTD officer, also shared and taught the audience the PSTD Homecoming song that he wrote. He also spearheaded the launching of the seven PSTD clubs that members can join. Fe Marie, also announced the various citations that will be given by the PSTD Awards Committee and invited everyone to nominate outstanding learning professionals worthy of the Gawad Maestro statue. A replica of the Maestro statue was also unveiled. The Election Committee led by Ms. Evelyn Esparrago also announced the election guidelines for the new set of officers. Inspiration poured out from the talk of PSTD President Mr. Jesse Rebustillo when he thanked everyone for being proactive by choosing to attend the activity and for taking personal leadership for their personal growth and development.

The guidelines and mechanics for the Gawad Maestro award will again be presented to the delegates during the fellowship night of the 37th PSTD National Convention on May 17-19, 2011 at the Apo View Hotel in Davao City during the. For details about the awards and the convention, please contact the PSTD secretariat at 703-8789/ 8140372 or visit www.pstd.org.
