Facilitating Learning and Development Methodologies course aims to equip the learning professional with specific skills, tips and techniques in selecting, planning and successfully facilitating a wide range of learning methods apart from the traditional lecture method.

  • Adult Learning:  Andragogy vs. Pedagogy
  • Adult Learning Principles from Knowles & Other Contributors
  • A Range of L&D Methods:

1. Classified According to Bloom’s Taxonomy of Learning Objectives
2. Continuum of “Trainer-Centered” to “Learner Centered” Methods

  • Adapting L&D Methods to Learning Styles:  The VARK Model
  • Choosing the Right Learning Method:  Some Guidelines

Module 2: PRESENTING, FACILITATING, TRAINING:  BASIC DIFFERENCES

  • Is a “Great Presenter” Automatically A “Great Facilitator”?
  • Activity:  Treasure Hunt & Matching Game
  • Differentiating “Presenting”, “Facilitating” and “Training”

Module 3: FACILITATING METHODS THAT FOCUS ON SPEAKING

  • 2 Discussion Methods:

1. Class Discussions

  • Uses, Advantages & Disadvantages of Each Method
  • 7 Critical Skills in Facilitating Discussions:  Do’s and Don’ts for the Trainer
  • Activity:  Demonstration of Skills & Skills Practice

Module 4: FACILITATING METHODS THAT FOCUS ON READING, WRITING & LISTENING

  • 6 Methods that Focus on Reading, Writing and Listening
