PSTD Poster for Enhancing L&D Through Social Learning

On July 29, 2021, PSTD held another Tipanan entitled “Enhancing L&D Effectiveness through Social Learning”. This session highlighted how the said concept is adapted by organizations. Two distinguished speakers namely Vett Watson, the Modern Work & Security Business Lead at Microsoft Philippines, and Catherine Granados – Candelaria, the Manager of Leadership and Talent Development at QBE Group Shared Services Center talked about their organization’s practices and the technology available for enabling social learning.

Ms. Granados focused on how L&D practice might influence social learning in every organization. She mentioned “If we accept that social learning occurs every day, we also have to accept that learning experience will vary. Designing the learning experience for the organization, influences variation.” The learning experience that an organization wanted to create, transforms into a culture of learning.

Mr. Watson talked about employee experience and social learning: investing in your people’s growth for business growth. They shared that over the last year, organizations tried different ways to survive in a remote setup even though several challenges were experienced. Microsoft continuously provides solutions to make lives easier for organizations. One of which is through an Employee Experience Platform (EXP) that puts people as learners and employees at the center of bringing together systems for learning. To do so, Microsoft Viva came to light intending to empower people and teams to be their best.

Towards the end of the Tipanan, the participants were divided into breakout sessions to share their insights related to social learning.

Social Learning Theory was developed by Albert Bandura that mainly proposes the cognitive process which occurs in observation and direct instruction. In a nutshell, learning through interaction with others in a social context (Nabavi, 2012).
