PSTD Holds 2nd Talent Development Summit

The PSTD Talent Development Framework presents 4 stages in the talents’ journey.

The Philippine Society for Talent Development (PSTD) recently concluded its 2nd Philippine Talent Development Summit last August 31, 2021, with the theme, “Elevating Talent to Thrive in the Shifting Realities.” 80 participants attended the Summit from both private and government sectors. The 4-hour Summit allowed participants to hear 4 presentations on the progress of Talent Development both globally and in the country. They also participated in a conversation on the application of Talent Development in the workplace.

Xandra Feliza B. Galang, PSTD’s Talent Development Committee Head and Human Capital Leader -Organization Transformation for Delloitte welcomed the summit delegates and warmed them up for the learning ahead by talking about the urgency of the need to adapt to the new normal and rethink our approach to talent development. Mr. Edwin C. Ebreo, President of ExeQserve Corporation and 2021 PSTD Publication Committee Chair and 2019, and 2021 Talent Development Committee Member presented updates in the creation of the Talent Development Framework. He explained how the talent development journey fits the existing HR systems.

Adrian Ole, Executive Director of Deloitte Human Capital Organization Transformation Southeast Asia, was the summit’s keynote speaker. He some of the significant changes in the workplace when the pandemic happened. He focused his talk on the enhanced look between ‘work’, ‘workforce’ and ‘workplace.’ The speaker pointed out that technology had kept evolving and focused on efficiency and cost reduction, however, we have been focusing on adding technology to the workplace but failing to check and see the direct effects of it to the actual work. Mr. Ole showed how we can re-architect work in such a way that we redirect the shift from Talent Management to a balanced ecosystem of both humans and machines. Mr. Ole ended his presentation with five immediate actions to help organizations with their journey towards the ‘Future of Work’.

The Director of Organizational Development and Culture for Chroma Hospitality Inc. The panelists were Jojo Lomibao Tandoc, RPsy, RPm, CHCS, CLC, CMC®, Vice President – HR and OD of Semirara Mining and Power Corporation Philippines, Zarah Zamora – Arroyo, the Chief Human Resource Specialist of Civil Service Commission Regional Office V for Human Resource Division, and Juan M. Roy, the 2021 PSTD President. The conversation centered on facilitating the needed Talent Development changes in time when organizations from all sectors are feeling the pain of the pandemic. The panelists recognized the value of technology in implementing TD in the workplace. They emphasized that what works in traditional talent development doesn’t work on digital talent development. The TD Professionals must understand first the directions of the organization, identify the stakeholders, and help them play their roles in the new TD process.

Delegates had an opportunity to discuss how they can apply the lessons in their organization, and how they intend to do it. Following the group presentation, Mr. Juan Roy shared the Talent Development Capability Framework wherein it showed six various key roles of the TD Professionals to help their organizations’ Talent Development transition. Ms. Fabi Cariño, Country Head for Human Resources at Dentsu International provided the synthesis of the program. She cited the framework in its presentation of talent development as both a journey and a continuing cycle leading to realizing talents’ full potential.

The 2nd Philippine Talent Development Summit was officially closed by Ms. Elvie Tarrobal, The Founder and Managing Director of Career Clinic & Enterprise Solutions Incorporated, our 2021 PSTD Chair.
